Why We Love To Work
In Vandalia, Ohio

This city is located at the intersection of two major highways, which stretch across the U.S. Because of this, Vandalia is considered to be the “Crossroads of America.” Vandalia is located 10 miles north of Dayton, in Montgomery County. Recent estimates indicate the city has a population of nearly 15,000.

Vandalia’s history goes back to 1838, when Benjamin Wilhelm, a settler from Pennsylvania, settled near what is now the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and US Route 25-A. The area he settled in was the area that would one day become Vandalia. Wilhelm built his home and established a small general store as a stopping and resting place for people who were passing through and traveling west. Eventually, Vandalia started attracting travelers and entrepreneurs. Eventually, on February 7, 1848, the town was incorporated as “The Village of Vandalia.’ The founder, Benjamin Wilhelm, served as the city’s first mayor. By 1959, however, the town was quickly outgrowing its “village” status. That was the year its citizens decided to make it a council-manager form of government, effectively making the village into a municipal corporation. On January 2, 1960, Vandalia became a Charter City of the State of Ohio. The town’s name is believed to have come from Vandalia, Illinois, for many reasons.
